Vito is a powerful man, and is kind to all those who give him respect but is ruthless against those who do not.
But when a powerful and treacherous rival wants to sell drugs and needs the Don's influence for the same, Vito refuses to do it. What follows is a clash between Vito's fading old values and the new ways which may cause Michael to do the thing he was most reluctant in doing and wage a mob war against all the other mafia families which could tear the Corleone family apart.
An offer you can't refuse. Did you know Edit. Trivia During an early shot of the scene where Vito Corleone returns home and his people carry him up the stairs, Marlon Brando put weights under his body on the bed as a prank, to make it harder to lift him.
After two bona fide classics, The Godfather Part III is generally viewed as a letdown in comparison - a solid effort in an otherwise exceptional franchise. After finishing up with his epic sequel, Coppola was content to leave the Corleone story alone, with no burning desire to revisit that world again. Coppola has spoken of his preference for smaller, lower-budget projects, and he worked on plenty of these labors of love after The Godfather Part II , all while resisting studio offers to make a third installment in the Corleone saga.
After Zoetrope's debt continued to spiral over the following years, the studio filed for bankruptcy in , the same year The Godfather Part III was released. Naturally, this experience left Coppola in a less-than-ideal financial position, and with a lucrative offer to make a third Godfather movie still on the table, the time had come for the director, still somewhat reluctantly, to return to the Corleone story. While draft scripts were already in place when Coppola finally agreed to make The Godfather Part III , much of this material was scrapped once the team of Coppola and Puzo reunited.
Rather than a straight sequel, Coppola and Puzo viewed the next installment of Michael's story as an epilogue titled The Death of Michael Corleone.
